The Record

The document library

These are the documents the site rests on: the Central Bank's own records, recovered from its website and from the Internet Archive after many were taken down, and the court rulings, sanctions notices, audited accounts and official reports cited in the cases. They are listed here so that a prosecutor or a researcher can identify each one and check any copy against its fingerprint. The library holds 7,843 documents, 7.7 GB in all.

How to read an entry

Each document carries up to three links, and a fingerprint:

Document: the document itself, kept in the archive of this site. A saved web page is shown on a page of the site, without its scripts and images.
Original address: the address where the document was first published. Many of these addresses no longer work.
Internet Archive copy: the copy kept by the Internet Archive (web.archive.org), a public library of web pages, as it was on the day it was saved.
SHA-256: the document's fingerprint, a code calculated from the file's contents. If a single character changes, the code changes. With it, a reader can check that a downloaded copy is identical to the one we archived. The list shows the first characters of the code. Most computers can calculate it with a short command, with the file's name in place of FILE: shasum -a 256 FILE on a Mac, sha256sum FILE on Linux and certutil -hashfile FILE SHA256 on Windows.

7,806 documents open from the archive of this site, because a document can be removed from the place that first published it. 1,890 documents also carry their original address or their Internet Archive copy, as a record of where the document came from. The other 37 are shown with their addresses or with their fingerprint alone.

The year is the one recorded for the document. For copies taken from the Internet Archive it is sometimes the year the copy was saved, not the year the document was written. Where a file name carries the document's own date, the title shows that date.
