About, corrections and replies
This is an encyclopedia of corruption in Iraq since 2003. It records where the country's wealth went and who received it. It is written for anyone born after 2003 who wants to understand what happened, for prosecutors looking for documents, for journalists looking for articles and for researchers looking for data.
Why it is published without a name
This work is published anonymously. Every number and every name in it rests on a document that readers can see for themselves, so no one is asked to trust its author. The site belongs to no party, government or funder, and it runs no analytics or tracking tools on its visitors.
Our rules
- Every number comes from the data and is linked to its source and evidence tier.
- Every name is given with its exact legal status on the date of writing. We call no one a criminal unless a court has convicted them, and we attribute every accusation.
- Being listed in a register records an office, an ownership stake or a licence. It is not an allegation.
- The price gap is a value that went to whoever got the dollars. It is not a finding that any bank or person made that money.
- We describe money that no record explains as "not itemised", never as "stolen", unless a court or an official body says so.
Corrections and right of reply
If you find a mistake in any record, or you are named here and wish to reply, write to us with any documents you have. We will publish your reply, or a fair summary of it, next to the record. We will correct anything shown to be wrong and give the date of the correction.
The address for corrections and replies is being set up and will be published on this page.
