Former heads of the Border Ports Commission and the General Commission for Customs summoned over goods released without checks or duties (from 2023 to 2024)

The Federal Integrity Commission announced court summonses for the former heads of the two bodies that run Iraq's border crossings and customs. On 8 November 2023 it said the Karkh second investigation court had summoned the former head of the Border Ports Commission under Article 331 of the Penal Code, for allowing goods into Iraq without the checks of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control and for ordering crossing directorates to release iron goods held at the crossings. On 21 January 2024 it said the Rusafa investigation court for integrity, money laundering and economic crime had summoned the former director general of the General Commission for Customs, also under Article 331, for letting quantities of cement in without customs duties or tariffs, causing a loss of public money. Neither statement names the official. Earlier, on 1 August 2019, MP Alia Nassif had asked the Prime Minister to remove the then director general of customs, accusing him of extorting companies contracted with the Finance Ministry.
