Diyala University printing press: an IQD 1.45 billion contract with an inflated estimate; an adviser at the Sunni Endowment and three Higher Education employees sentenced (from 2007 to 2021)

On 18 March 2021 the Federal Integrity Commission said the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court had sentenced, in person, an adviser at the Sunni Endowment Diwan to two years' imprisonment and three employees of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to one year each, under Article 340 of the Penal Code. The case concerned a contract to supply a complete printing press to Diyala University, awarded to a private company for IQD 1.45 billion from the regional development account of 2007. The Commission said its early inquiries had found that the cost estimate for the press was inflated. The legal representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Diyala Governorate and Diyala University asked for the punishment of anyone found responsible, and the court found the four guilty after hearing witnesses. The statement did not name the convicted or the company, and did not explain the adviser's role in the 2007 contract.
