Interior Ministry medical officer Luqman Muhammad Sulaiman: seven-year sentence for taking money for promised jobs, and return from Turkey (2025)

On 20 February 2025 the Federal Integrity Commission said it had secured the return from Turkey of Luqman Muhammad Sulaiman, a former medical officer in the Interior Ministry's Directorate of Medical Affairs. The Commission said that while serving there he had taken money from several people in return for promises to appoint them to the Interior Ministry. The criminal court for integrity cases had earlier sentenced him in absentia to seven years' imprisonment under Revolutionary Command Council decision No. 160 of 1983, as amended. After an Interpol red notice he was held in Turkey, following coordination between the Interior Ministry's Arab and International Police Directorate and the Interpol office in Ankara, and he was flown under escort from Ankara to Baghdad International Airport to be brought before the courts. The Commission thanked the Public Prosecution and the Iraqi National Intelligence Service for their help.
