Armouring of Interior Ministry vehicles: a contractor's representative sentenced over 72 vehicles not returned (2018) and a former Federal Police commander summoned over IQD 7 billion (2023)
On 9 October 2018 the Integrity Commission said the Rusafa Criminal Court for integrity cases had sentenced in absentia, to imprisonment, the representative of a private company contracted with the Interior Ministry. The ministry had handed him 100 vehicles for armouring and he had not returned 72 of them, worth IQD 14,991,480,000. The verdict, issued in late August 2018, ordered his arrest and upheld the seizure of his assets. On 20 February 2023 the Commission said the Rusafa integrity investigation judge had summoned a former commander of the Federal Police and five other accused on suspicion of embezzling up to IQD 7 billion meant for spare parts and armouring of military vehicles by a general trading company between 2014 and 2016, under Article 340 of the Penal Code and the articles on complicity. Baghdad Today named the former commander as Lieutenant General Raed Shaker Jawdat. In September 2019, after he left the post, his sister, MP Nada Shaker Jawdat, had called reports that he was referred to the courts on corruption charges untrue.
