The Supreme Judicial Council announced on 25 April 2021 that the Rusafa investigation court had decided to arrest the hospital director, whom it named Salman al-Shammari, and other staff and to hold him until the inquiry into the fire ended; Rudaw said it was unclear whether he had been arrested. The Ministry of Health suspended him the same day. On 4 May 2021 the Council of Ministers, adopting its investigative committee's recommendations, told the Ministry of Health to impose disciplinary penalties on the director, named as Salman Hamid Ali, remove him from his post and demote him. No trial or verdict is known as of 19 October 2026.
