Ericsson's Iraq payments (from 2011 to 2019): internal probe, possible payments to ISIS and Swedish criminal investigation

In February 2022, ahead of an ICIJ-coordinated investigation ("The Ericsson List"), Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm said people linked to the company may have paid for road transport through areas controlled by terrorist organisations including ISIS, and that the company could not determine the final recipients. An internal investigation had found possible corruption in its Iraq operations between 2011 and 2019. In April 2022 Swedish prosecutor Leif Görtz opened a preliminary investigation into possible corruption offences in Iraq from 2011 to 2019. (The US Department of Justice is reported to have found later that Ericsson had breached its 2019 deferred prosecution agreement, and the company is reported to have pleaded guilty in 2023.)
