Commando brigade in Maysan: 28 arrest warrants for officers suspected of taking money to overlook soldiers' absence (2021)

On 23 February 2021 the Federal Integrity Commission said the courts had issued 28 arrest warrants against officers commanding units of a commando brigade serving in Maysan province. The Commission said the officers were suspected of taking money from members of the brigade in return for overlooking their failure to attend duty regularly. Its investigation office in Maysan had collected and checked the evidence, prepared separate papers for each violation and put them before the competent court, which issued the warrants under Article 307 of the Penal Code. That article punishes a public employee who asks for or accepts a gift, benefit or promise in return for doing or not doing an act of his duties with up to ten years' imprisonment.
