National Investment Commission: legal department director general Sura Alaa Hussein suspended (2025) and arrested on corruption charges (2026)

On 24 August 2026 a security force arrested Sura Alaa Hussein, director general of the legal department of the National Investment Commission, on judicial warrants over financial and administrative corruption, a source quoted by the Iraqi News Agency said. A security source told Shafaq News that the case concerned suspicions that she had bargained with investment companies. Arabi21 reported that the head of the Commission had suspended her from her duties for the second time in September 2025 on the recommendations of investigating committees, after an inquiry into irregularities in dealing with the Integrity Commission and accusations that inquiries into certain projects had not been carried out as the Integrity Commission had directed. The arrest came during the government's anti-corruption campaign of 2026. The charges against her had not been made public as of 19 October 2026.
