Audio leak attributed to PM adviser Abdel Karim al-Faisal complaining a bribe was "only $1 million" (November 2024)

On 11 November 2024 the Federal Integrity Commission said that, on PM Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's directive and in coordination with an anti-corruption criminal judge, it had opened an investigation into an audio recording attributed to Abdel Karim al-Faisal, head of the PM Office's Commission of Advisers, in which a man criticises his interlocutor for a bribe of "only $1 million". Al-Faisal denied the claim, calling the clip fabricated; AFP could not authenticate it. The same period saw other leaks, including one that led to a 60-day suspension of the tax bureau chief.
