Members of Parliament said in late 2022 and in 2023 that the Hajj and Umrah Commission, through its Al-Miqat company, held the prison feeding contract with the Ministry of Justice. MP Mustafa Jabbar Sanad said the state paid IQD 10,900 a prisoner a day for meals worth no more than IQD 5,000 (Alsumaria News, May 2023). No charge known as of 19 October 2026.
