Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Adnan al-Jumaili: arrest and seizure of about $107m in cash, gold and property (2026)
In late May 2026, soon after Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi took office, a special force and a Federal Integrity Commission team arrested Adnan al-Jumaili, Deputy Minister of Oil for Refining Affairs, in Salaheddin. The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court said investigators seized about $10m in cash, IQD 3bn, 1.5kg of gold, about 40 properties in Baghdad, Salaheddin and Erbil, and weapons. Further caches (some buried) followed; the Supreme Judicial Council said in July 2026 that IQD 13bn, $400,000, forty 1-kg gold bars and 5kg of jewellery had been found in Salaheddin, and media citing the Supreme Judicial Council put total seizures at about $107m. Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad publicly called him the Oil Ministry's "whale" and accused him of siphoning refinery funds and financing parties. Officials said his confessions led to the June 2026 Green Zone arrests. Former Salaheddin governor Raed al-Jubouri was also reported arrested in the widening case.
