August 2017: arrest warrants and a conviction topple the governors of Salah al-Din, Basra and Anbar

In early August 2017 a court jailed Salah al-Din governor Ahmed Abdullah al-Jubouri for three years for financial and administrative corruption (later designated by the US in 2019). Days later arrest warrants for corruption and mismanagement were issued for Basra governor Majid al-Nasrawi, who resigned and left via Iran for Australia (military intelligence investigated the Shalamcheh crossing officers who let him pass despite a travel ban), and Anbar governor Suhaib al-Rawi, who reportedly offered about IQD 2bn to settle his case. The Integrity Commission asked the Foreign Ministry to seek Nasrawi's return from Iran; an ally called the accusations politically motivated.
