Illicit-enrichment and bribery convictions of MPs and senior officials after the 2026 crackdown

Between July and September 2026 the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a series of illicit-enrichment verdicts announced by the Federal Integrity Commission: former MP Talal al-Zobaie (7 years; about IQD 35bn unexplained wealth; about IQD 70bn to repay incl. fine), MP Bahaa al-Din Nour Muhammad Hussein (Bahaa al-Nouri; 7 years; >IQD 40bn), MP Ashwaq Salim Hassan (Ashwaq al-Jubouri; 7 years in person; total IQD 11.95bn), and MP Alia Nassif (7 years; >IQD 61bn, according to Alsumaria). MP Mohammed al-Karbouli was sentenced in July 2026 to 2 years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine for demanding money in return for having investigations closed (Integrity Commission statement; first reported by a judicial source on 16 July). Media also reported a 7-year sentence for MP Hind al-Abbasi (23 September 2026), which no Integrity Commission statement confirms (her arrest and asset freeze are recorded in the case Green Zone anti-corruption raids: 47 officials arrested including 13 MPs and a deputy oil minister (from 28 to 29 June 2026)). On 29 September 2026 the Commission announced a 7-year sentence in person for MP Mohammed Farman Shaher Salman al-Jubouri (IQD 28.16bn to repay, including the fine). An arrest warrant for former Labour Minister Ahmed al-Asadi for illicit enrichment was reported (court document dated 29 July 2026).
