What the documents say

On 28 December 2022 MP Hadi al-Salami of Parliament's integrity committee filed a complaint with the Public Prosecution against the Minister of Trade and anyone found negligent after part of the strategic rice stock flooded in the stores of the tea blending and packing factory at al-Hurriya, Baghdad. On 11 January 2023 the Integrity Commission seized 261.3 tonnes of rain damaged rice there and said the case was under investigation to identify those responsible. No charge against the minister is on record as of 19 October 2026.
On 14 February 2024 MP Hadi al-Salami said he had completed a request, with more than 50 signatures, to question the minister in Parliament over violations, suspected corruption, waste of public money and the food basket. On 5 March 2024, according to the ministry, a Karkh misdemeanour court for integrity cases sentenced al-Salami for making and using a forged document attributed to the Board of Supreme Audit. No interpellation session or charge against the minister is on record as of 19 October 2026. As minister he announced the removal of more than 4.4 million names from the ration lists (see Ghost names on the ration card: more than five million entries removed (from 2025 to 2026)).
